Transparency and Education
I’m glad you asked, it means if we cannot do it then no one can. But I’ve been refused grooming service because my dog needs to be sedated to be groomed. Dog Grooming Albuquerque is our specialty in such cases. Not a problem, we have experience grooming senior dogs with medical conditions. Ie: seizures, anxiety, aggressive not a problem.
My Dog is super aggressive and cannot be groomed! Dog Grooming Albuquerque is our expertise here. Do not worry, we specialize in dog woof bark zu… Bad joke, meaning we have special equipment like bite gloves, restraint harnesses, and muzzles in extreme cases. What that means is we are not afraid of getting bit or scratched (because even if we did, our special equipment protects us.) It’s hard for us as Dog Groomers to refuse service based on the dog’s health, aggression, or difficulty level. It’s really hard when a dog or cat gets older and then becomes more difficult and is consequently refused service by most pet grooming service providers ie: big box retailers that tell you it is against their policy.
Education and Apprenticeship
Oftentimes our curious pet parents are the ones that become pet groomers so we love to have Pet Parents see how the grooming process happens and offer pro tips based on their pet’s breed! We will often show how to brush out mattes, file or trim nails, express glands (kind of gross), pull ear hair to prevent ear infections, and clean ears. We look at it this way… at worst it makes you a better pet parent and at best we train a new Pet Groomer to join our team so either way to us it is a clear win / win. Watch our tutorials on how to trim and file nails, express glands, pull ear hair to prevent infections, and clean ears. This will get you one step ahead of the game to become a Pet Grooming Apprentice. You would learn these basic techniques first. Then as mastery is demonstrated we would move you on to learning bathing / drying. The last step before you are certified is breed specific haircuts. The average time it takes apprentices to learn is usually 1 year. Some longer, some shorter, really depends on how fast you pick it up!
The ideal candidate apprentice is usually a junior in high school and learns the basic bather certification working through the summer and then becomes a grooming apprentice upon Graduation of high school. We also accept Pet groomers from other training backgrounds however that is a very broad case by case basis. Lets just say just because you took some test on the internet does not make you a Pet Groomer. I’m even saddened more when I hear how much money they were scammed out of and are unable to do the Basic Bather Certification test. Very Sad! Do not fall for these scams! If you have had Pet Grooming training and can demonstrate on a test dog and are willing to adhere to our safety standards then good chances you are hired.
Limiting factors are often scheduling ie: you have to work when your customer wants to come in which is like every saturday? and or unpleasant personality ie: complain about your colleagues or customer dogs.
