We are local! Our reliable dog grooming Albuquerque began in 2015. Less than a year later we added a second location and then a third location. Most recently our fourth location opened in 2017 in Los Lunas. Would it be crazy to say it was all a ‘Happy Accident’? Meet Alex Campbell
My Name is Alex Campbell, and I will be the first to tell you I never intended to be a Pet Groomer or a lead of the dog grooming Albuquerque market, but am so thankful I did! My story starts over 10 years ago working private security and leaving the military. I was really confused and unsure of what I wanted to do next! My Girlfriend who is now my wife at the time was gifted a teacup yorkshire terrier from her Father and was in need of grooming service. I was asked to take him to the Groomers! While I was there I asked questions like how do you become a groomer… Basically I was hired on the spot and I never would have thought I would be doing anything like this. I soon mastered the trade and was teaching people how to Groom. Before I knew it, I was opening my own store and becoming an entrepreneur!

I learned to groom over the years from the Big Box Retailers and I did my best to keep what I liked and get rid of the rest. I think that is what made all of the businesses locations so successful! Like grooming aggressive, senior, or medicated dogs. It really bothered me working at other places and having to refuse service to a customer pet parent that has brought their dog to me for years but I was no longer allowed to groom based on this biased policy of easy dogs only. Especially when you have known the Dog since it was a puppy! Long story short here we are!

I cannot express the joy it is when I have pet parents tell me or my staff my dog does not like or will not let you do it. Especially when we do it in front of them and they are shocked and say things like they never let anyone do that before or they never saw them groomed so well before! True story: we have a big box retailer that I will not name that refers all of their dogs they cannot groom for any one of their policy violations to us. They have in their script if they cannot groom the pet parents’ dog then refer them to Barking Bad Grooming. I confirmed this with their manager. My mind is blown! We are a competing business and they instruct their staff to refer their work if they cannot complete it to us!!!

I am very competitive by nature however If any one of my staff was recommending a prospective customer to go somewhere else when we could do the job I would make sure they did not work with us anymore. I never intended to be the place where you take your ungroom-able pet too but just another happy accident!

They even force people to sign non-compete contracts that lasted 2 years and people still left! I soon found out that there were many big box retailers that would gladly have me work for them but they were all just some form of the same thing. It felt like my job was no longer grooming pets but rather finding a reason why we could not groom pet parents pets… Get this if you got really good at disqualifying pets you would become a manager and get promoted quickly! I know you think I’m exaggerating… (see our testimonials!) I wish I was but also happy that a little guy like me can compete with some of these big box retailers. I wish we could have a niche of getting good dogs only, however the crazy part is that when people come in because they have aggressive, senior or medical needs dogs that are crazy for the big box retailers are often calm and relaxed for us!

All I can really say is we love what we do and when you love what you do; it doesn’t feel like work… It’s your passion. I personally try not to use any big box retailers for anything unless I absolutely have too. The reason is: you will not find the higher levels of expertise! Look at our photos online of finished Dogs! Do you see other businesses proudly displaying their work? Or have you gone somewhere and the person you had grooming your pet doesn’t work there anymore? And then the other people do not do that good of a job?
