Support and Training
The job itself is not hard… once you are trained. It can be difficult learning and having your salon manager check your work until you learn, however this job is not a job where we watch your every move and write you up for every little mistake. We will be invested in making sure you are learning and can do the job safely. Everyone that has ever worked with us could do this job. The real reason they do not work out is because they quit. It is usually for this main reason. It was a lot more work than they thought it would be. On average it takes a year to train someone to learn this trade.
Satisfaction in the Job This is a valuable skill to have! If you have ever considered working with animals, this is the place you want to be. Our staff members on average stay with us over 3 years. Next time you are at a big box retailer pet shop ask the staff how long they have worked there. If you find someone that has been there over 3 years they are most likely managers. It is usually purgatory until those pet groomers can leave. Imagine how your pets feel; they get used to the new person and then they quit! Sometimes the customers cannot find out where they are working when they leave. It is much easier for the pet and pet parent to keep a certain level of consistency. The reason is change is scary to our 4-legged friends.
Reasons for Leaving When staff members leave, it is usually for these main reasons: spouse took a job out of the area, wanted to do something else to change careers (e.g., dental hygienist, dog trainer, veterinarian tech), home life became too demanding (e.g., kids need more care).
Job Satisfaction I do not want to make it sound like it is easy. (This job is not a sitdown job.) What I am saying is it is worth it! (for the person that wants it)
