I remember the first time being contacted by local government leaders. I was surprised that they would trust us. When I discovered the difficulties they had in procuring grooming services at a reasonable price I was shocked. I was offered city contracts but when I found out what they were doing it was a no brainer… we had to help! It was not just me that wanted to help, it was the staff as well at each location. I put out a memo saying not to charge for the service dogs grooming but they could still get paid for the work by turning in the billable work. All you need to do if you are an agency with a service dog for public use is find which location is best for you. Contact the salon manager at that location and bring appropriate credentials. We love serving those who serve us!!! Especially when they are 4 legged!
Volunteer with Us!
The organizations that reach out to us you would not think need our service… sometimes they need us to teach them a trade. The Commission of the Blind reached out and sent blind kids to work with us! We cannot share their names until they are over 18 however you might call to schedule an appointment talking to one of them not knowing they are blind. They also learn valuable skills that assist them with their personal seeing eye dogs. It is a win win. I challenge anyone to be blind going to the restroom. We tried and it was hard. Very rewarding to know what challenges others are faced with. Just try answering your phone without your sight. Just finding your phone is a challenge when you can see! Imagine not being able to see. The best way I heard it said is; “marco polo is only fun when you know you can stop playing” the blind have such an easier time asking others for help. Often we who are experiencing this world are left suffering in silence because we are too ashamed or afraid of what others might think. Working with the blind often teaches us so what! So what if someone else thinks you are weak for asking for help… the worst they can say is NO when you ask for help in this human experience there is blessing for those who respond yes because it is more blessed to give than to receive!

We often have young kids come and job shadow. Do not be surprised if you come in during the summer and see someone that looks too young to work. We love teaching our youth about Pet Grooming! We will often even let them bath or dry dogs! Under adult supervision of course! Sometimes the kids are up for a real challenge cleaning up dog messes from time to time and we are never disappointed by the funny faces they make and the questions they ask!

If you would have asked me or any of the staff that work or involved in volunteering to provide for these needs. I do not believe any of us would have thought we would get a greater reward. With all the community relationships we have made over the years it has been a real blessing!
